To imprint you forever here
In this world your tiny feet never stepped.
For I never held you in my arms
But I’ll forever hold you in my heart
You’re an angel.
My what if, if only, angel.
Maybe I’ll get a tattoo
The ink of you on my shoulder, ankle or wrist.
A validation of my pain – it’s heavy and persists.
Maybe I’ll plant a native tree
That stands tall, our shelter.
Each leaf an echo of your silent fingerprints.
My darling baby,
I’ll never see you skip or leap
But a leap of faith I will take
To know that my grief will never leave me.
Yet I’ll hold tightly to the hope
That one day, at least,
It will become more bearable.
